INFORMATION

My work is a reflection of diversity. Genetically, Japanese are hybrids of other ethnicity, and have been influenced by surrounding countries throughout their history. With that as a background, living in the U.S. gave me exposure to diversity. Using space, color and lighting my paintings convey its mood across to the viewers. Still, what is pleasant and what are stressful, emotions are taken differently among individuals and cultures. My goal is to portray imagery universal to all audiences.

Although I work with a digital media, I still keep the techniques of old masters such as Caravaggio, Titian and Jakuchu. Caravaggio and Titianfs tight figure drawings contrasted with Jakuchufs loose, gestural lines. Lighting and depth created in Western oil paintings against unique flat atmosphere within Japanese ink paintings. Combination of such factor creates the mood and style I strive for.
